20 Tonne Theft

A Grade 1 Listed Church in Bedfordshire had its entire roof stolen overnight.

The cleaner of the church arrived on Tuesday morning to find light coming through the roof, upon further inspection it was discovered that thieves had stolen over 20 tonnes of lead tiles from the roof.

The repairs needed could cost upwards of £10,000 due to its listed status, the roof must be replaced with historically accurate tiles.

Bedfordshire police are advising any residents with CCTV to check and come forward with anything suspicious.

It has been suggested the thieves may have been posing as tradespeople and driving back and forth in vans with scaffolding equipment.

The church is asking for donations to help cover the cost of the repairs.
