New Solar Panel Technology

Esdec, the solar power company have come up with an innovative solution for mounting solar panels to flat roofs.

Introduced to the US this month, the clickable system solves the problem of mounting panels at angles on flat roofs. To maximise the benefit of solar panels, it is favourable for them to be orientated in a south-facing direction or to use a dual-tilt system.

The patented FlatFix system to said to guarantee the use of all solar panels on any flat roof. The system is lightweight, spreading weight evenly across the roof and uses click-fit connectors and thermal decoupling.

The Esdec technology will be available in the US from September 2018.

Garage fire causes mass evacuation

A huge fire in Twyford Street, Normanton has been found to have started in Twyford Auto’s.

The fire in the garage forced over 100 homes and business to be evacuated, with a refuge centre set up at St Augustine’s Church nearby.

Sean Wells, Fire service manager, said the road closures and evacuations were due to the presence of commercial cylinders.

The roads surrounding the area have since been reopened and eye-witness statements have been released.

One local resident said “When we left, the roof was popping off and I thought that that’s probably why they evacuated all the nearby houses.”

Rogue builder caught by Trading Standards

A rogue builder in Wokingham have been given a community order after leaving a house with an unsafe roof and gas meter.

Kevin Carter of Haughton Green Builders, was investigated by the Public Protection Partnership Trading Standards after he failed to adequately complete a one storey extension in 2015.

Carter had agreed to build the extension, which included a shower room, utility room and other work between September and December 2015. He claimed he would complete the work in four weeks, but after three months and £29,000, the work was still not complete.

Trading standards found the property in shocking condition, with a risk of the roof collapsing, a faulty gas meter which was causing a gas leak and the extension not water tight.

Carter pleaded guilty and was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

A Grade 1 Listed Church in Bedfordshire had its entire roof stolen overnight.

The repairs needed could cost upwards of £10,000 due to its listed status, the roof must be replaced with historically accurate tiles.

Bedfordshire police are advising any residents with CCTV to check and come forward with anything suspicious.

It has been suggested the thieves may have been posing as tradespeople and driving back and forth in vans with scaffolding equipment.
